Selective Mathematics has become iteratively harder every year. It’s easy to see from judging papers in 2021 to 2023, the degree in which math questions require critical thinking has been on the rise. For our second mini lesson, we're going to investigate an interesting problem together. The Monty Hall Problem goes like this: You are on a game show, being asked to choose between three doors. You cannot see behind the doors, or peek under, which means you don't know anything about what's behind each door. There are TWO GOATS, but only ONE SUPERCAR.You choose ONE door. The host, Monty Hall, then picks one of the other doors and opens it, showing you the goat. Monty knows exactly where the supercar is and where the goats are.Monty then asks you, "Would like to SWITCH your choice of door to the other remaining door?"Obviously, we'd all like to go to school in a supercar rather than riding ontop of a goat. In order to win, do you choose to SWITCH or NOT TO SWITCH?Think about the problem, maybe talk over it with your mum or dad over dinner time! Then watch Rob's animated video below for the answer.
